2011 Scholarship Program

In our continuing commitment to promote the performing arts and education, Salinas Performing Arts offers two scholarship programs to students living in Salinas and the greater Monterey County area: the Salinas Performing Arts Scholarship(s) and the Joann Adair Memorial Scholarship.  The performing arts include, but are not limited to, dance, drama, voice, and theatrical production.  Scholarships will be awarded for various amounts and preference is given to graduating seniors.  However, all applications will be considered.  All applications, required documents and materials MUST be RECEIVED by February 3, 2012 for consideration.  To receive an application, please email us.

Salinas Performing Arts Scholarship

Established in 1965, as part of the mission of SPA.  From 1965-67 SPA was the only organization in Monterey County that provided financial aid to performing arts students
  • From 1965-85 SPA awarded 48 scholarships totaling $9,625.00
  • Provided for the purpose of furthering the education of the student in the performing arts; preference given to exceptional, graduating seniors
  • applicants must be registered in an accredited institution
  • they must furnish proof of their intention to continue in their chosen artistic field
  • they must furnish proof of enrollment
  • they must provide recent VHS/DVD documentation showcasing their talents
  • From 2004-2009 SPA awarded $18,450.00 (including the Joann Adair Memorial Scholarship)

Joann Adair Memorial Scholarship

Established 2006 for outstanding graduating seniors pursuing performing arts
Recipients to date are:
  • 2011  Anna Bigelow - Joffrey Academy of Dance, Chicago
  • 2010  Angeline Petronijevic - The Opera Institute of California
  • 2009  Samantha Harrison - majoring in music at CSU Stanislaus
  • 2007  Kate Andrews - majoring in dance at CSU Long Beach
  • 2006  Nicole Hepfyl - majoring in drama at UC Irvine

Youth in the Studios Scholarship


This scholarship reaches out to underprivileged young students who are unable to pursue the performing arts without financial assistance, specifically those who haven't even had the chance to explore the performing arts.
  • plan to establish this in 2011-2012
  • youth sought in elementary schools
  • must have written description of financial need
  • need 2 letters of recommendations (1 from teacher, 1 from someone in community)
  • qualifying recipients get one academic year in a studio (Sept-June) of their choice
  • SPA contracts with studio and with student
  • quarterly report regarding student and attendance
  • quarterly payment to studio
